As my second writing entry I have learned a few more words that will be quite helpful in my journey to mastering the basics of the Korean language.during the first video I learned how to great someone during a first meeting encounter. This second video talks teaches how to ask question on what something is, useful for when we are beginners.
One of the most important words that is taught throughout the lesson is the word “imnida” which is used as a suffix for the last words of the sentence when speaking in Formal Korean. The word “imnida” is also the present tense of “To be” (is/are/am). Like my previous entry, informal and formal Korean is depicted as an important factor in speaking the language as it show your relationship and respects towards the other person. There are a total of seven speech level, each having it own unique verb ending depending on the respect shows you in a certain situation. This is a system of honorific speech which is quite different from what we normally know as honorific titles. Each Korean speech level can be combined with honorific or non-honorific noun and verb forms. If you add the different time of forms, there are a total of fourteen combinations. However, some of these fourteen combination are slowly going extinct form our use in everyday life. Some example of the combination is Hasoseoche, which is used a way of speaking that can now only be seen using in movies or dramas set in older eras, which is barely used by modern Koreans. Another combination is hageche which now exists almost only in Korean novels.
